Handbuilding Summer School

The course on handbuilding and ceramic decoration techniques will stimulate your imagination and allow your creative self to flourish. We will follow a simple, personalized program adapted to your goals, as well as to all levels and skills.

In the handbuilding course, you will have the opportunity to create pieces that you can later decorate with surprising effects in our raku course. Alternatively, you can work on that unique design project you’ve been imagining and drawing inspiration from, to later use it as a prototype and create a mold in our plaster mold-making course.

How are we going to work:

• Theoretical introduction in the course, exercises with different clays, sketching of pieces to be made.
• We will work on modeling techniques such as pinching, building pieces with coils, slab construction, and hollowing out a piece made from a solid lump.
• We will delve into different decoration techniques with engobes – application of engobes with a bulb syringe, marbling, sgraffito, mishima, stencils, brush, sponge. Presentation of the completed works, analysis, and conclusions.
• A few days after the course has ended, we will glaze and fire your pieces and notify you to come and pick them up. If you do not live in Barcelona, we will wrap them and send them to you. Consider shipping as an additional cost that will depend on the location of your home.
