Dalia Sofronie

A Romanian-born ceramic artist, she is the creative mind and co-founder of 137º Ceramic Art Studio

Originally from Romania, where she earned degrees in Decorative Arts and Advertising Design, she built a career as an Art Director for several internationally renowned advertising agencies. This experience served as a catalyst for her creative thinking and provided a solid foundation for launching and managing a project as ambitious as 137º Ceramic Art Studio.

Currently, she focuses on managing the studio, teaching ceramics and sculpture, and developing her own artistic body of work.

Artist Statement

I am deeply sensitive to aesthetics and fascinated by the harmony found in nature—its rhythms and that apparent randomness that always holds a precise meaning. I cannot stop contemplating the living wonders that surround us, and whenever I have the chance, I try to capture them in a piece of ceramics.

Since becoming a mother, I have also been captivated by the simplicity of true joy and the purity of being. This process has connected me profoundly with my inner child and, at the same time, with my femininity, which I believe is the engine behind everything that moves me. I strive to pay tribute to all of this through my work, using forms that evoke the sensitivity, strength, and magic of the intuitive, the innocent, and the feminine.

Manuel Estévez

A Spanish ceramic artist, Manuel is a co-founder and instructor at 137º Ceramic Art Studio.

Manuel has been immersed in the world of ceramics since 1996. He developed his practice in Ireland, where he lived for over a decade, collaborating with artists such as Brian Magee, Rob d’Eath, and Sinéad Fagan. He also honed his skills working with the sisters of Kylemore Abbey, at Stephen Pearce Pottery, and in various artisanal studios.

Since 2015, alongside Dalia, he has been dedicated to building 137º Ceramic Art Studio, where he serves as owner and administrator.

Artist Statement

My ceramic work is designed for everyday use. It is inspired, in part, by the work of artists such as Bernard Leach and Richard Phethean, as well as by traditional Hispano-Moresque pottery. I love working with terracotta for its warmth, adding slips in various colors that bring a sense of joy to my creations.
